Remote Teaching Survey
Good morning,
Thank you for being flexible as we work out teaching remotely as will be required over the next few weeks (I hope it is only weeks). Because the future is not set in stone I want to jump into teaching remotely and not assume this is short term. This may not be everyone's preference but I ask everyone to support the plan and be ready for a little adventure as we move forward.
My goal with teaching remotely is to maintain the same structure we already have in place with classes and scheduling. I have found a simple way for teachers to teach real-time with the Zoom platform. We will do PD on this Monday morning but Zoom is quite simple and quite effective. What will be different? Instead of being in the same room with students you will be teaching from your desk or whiteboard but seeing your students on your computer monitor. Zoom can actually accommodate over 100 students at a time so we should be in good shape. I used this at ND with 43 at a time and found it to be a great tool. More on this Monday.
After Monday I expect we will use Tuesday to practice teaching remotely and then begin a regular schedule on Wednesday with teachers having access to their classrooms to do online instruction. I had said in a previous email we would do PD from 8-9 and start classes at 9. Since we are using Zoom I do not see the need for regular PD past Tuesday. I also believe most of our specials can be taught remotely so, please be ready to modify your lesson plans to be ready for remote teaching.
I expect Google Classroom will be useful for students to turn in assignments, we will do PD on this Monday as well. To ensure quick help to students teachers now have the ability to reset email passwords for students, I will show you how to do this Monday in case you need to do so. Teachers can help students get into MobyMax which I think most of you already know how to do.
I went on a shopping spree this morning to make sure we are ready for teaching remotely. I have Bluetooth headsets and cameras along with the iPads. Please fill out this survey so we know how to support you on Monday and Tuesday to get ready to begin remote lessons full time starting Wednesday.
